Screen SVGs are 1080 × 1350 or 1600 × 900. Print SVGs are A3 (297 × 420 mm or 420 × 297 mm), RGB vectors with editable text and embedded open fonts. Print at actual size; physical output has not been proofed. Reuse notice and font licenses.

PLATE 09 / GEOLOGY
Before the hoodoos
The rocks came first. Sediments accumulated in a lake and floodplain system, then became rock. The modern sculpted landforms belong to a later chapter involving uplift, weathering and erosion.
Illustrative · depositional concept. Original diagram, not a reconstructed lake, measured outcrop, stratigraphic column or dated sequence. Layer thicknesses, shapes and colors are explanatory.
Schematic; no physical or chronological scale.

PLATE 10 / GEOLOGY
Small cracks, large changes
Water enters fractures; freezing conditions can promote cracking; runoff carries loosened material away. The three drawings separate processes to make them readable, not to set a clock for real rock.
Illustrative · process diagram. Simplified frost-weathering concept. No freeze-cycle count, pressure, erosion rate or guaranteed progression. Rock and water shapes are original illustrations.
Schematic; arrows show process, not measured force.

PLATE 11 / GEOLOGY
An opening in stone
Fractures and weaker zones can widen into openings within fins. Loss of a window’s roof can leave isolated columns. The drawings compare possible forms rather than predicting the fate of a specific landmark.
Illustrative · comparative forms. Original generic forms; not Thor’s Hammer, Natural Bridge or a ground scan. No measured dimensions or timescale; real development is more varied.
Schematic forms; panels are not measured stages.

PLATE 12 / GEOLOGY
A staircase in stone
The traditional five cliff names provide a broad way to read the Grand Staircase: Chocolate, Vermilion, White, Gray and Pink. This conceptual staircase rises north toward the Bryce region.
Illustrative · regional concept. Not a geologic cross-section or map. No surveyed contacts, thicknesses, distances, ages or continuous rock record are claimed. Colors are an editorial key.
South to north concept; no physical scale.
