Evidence & boundaries

Know what a note can say.

Reference context helps you ask a question. Your observation must still come from your own view. No page here supplies current park conditions.

    Current Conditions: reference-point latitude ↗

National Park Service · Bryce Canyon · Source updated: 2026-08-31 · Reviewed: 2026-10-02

Used for: The page lists a forecast reference latitude of 37.64128875732422° N. Rounded to one decimal place, this supplies the notebook’s nominal 37.6° N.

Limit: This is not a surveyed notebook station, a subject location or a horizon measurement. No current condition or forecast value is imported.

Factual reference only; no source photograph, graphic, logo or prose reproduced.

    Weather: Typical Weather table ↗

National Park Service · Bryce Canyon · Source updated: 2022-10-31 · Reviewed: 2026-10-02

Used for: Twelve monthly average high and low temperatures in degrees Fahrenheit, transcribed from the table.

Limit: The page does not identify the averaging period or station for this table. These are not 1991–2020 normals, a daily range, a forecast, or measurements made by this notebook.

Factual reference only; no source photograph, graphic, logo or prose reproduced.

    Plants ↗

National Park Service · Bryce Canyon · Source updated: 2023-04-30 · Reviewed: 2026-10-02

Used for: The park has varied plant communities, including dry meadows and communities near seeps and springs.

Limit: A habitat description does not establish a plant at your observation spot.

Factual reference only; no source photograph, graphic, logo or prose reproduced.

    Wildflowers ↗

National Park Service · Bryce Canyon · Source updated: 2023-04-30 · Reviewed: 2026-10-02

Used for: Exposed ridges and shaded forests provide different light environments for plants.

Limit: No blooming date, abundance or current flower report is supplied. Drawings are generic, not identification keys.

Factual reference only; no source photograph, graphic, logo or prose reproduced.

    Quaking Aspen ↗

National Park Service · Bryce Canyon · Source updated: 2023-02-01 · Reviewed: 2026-10-02

Used for: Aspen leaves can turn yellow and gold in autumn.

Limit: This general pattern supplies no date for peak color and does not identify a tree from a color alone. Other claims on the source page are not adopted.

Factual reference only; no source photograph, graphic, logo or prose reproduced.

  • Calculation method · sn-noaa-equations

    General Solar Position Calculations ↗

NOAA Global Monitoring Division · Source updated: not stated · Reviewed: 2026-10-02

Used for: Fractional-year solar declination and the 90.833-degree sunrise/sunset hour-angle approximation; leap years use 366 days.

Limit: The notebook evaluates declination at nominal noon and derives day length, rounded to five minutes, at an editorial reference latitude of 37.6° N. It does not calculate a local sunrise time, terrain shadow, visibility, or a measured day.

Factual reference only; no source photograph, graphic, logo or prose reproduced.

  • Model limitations · sn-noaa-details

    Solar Calculation Details ↗

NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory · Source updated: not stated · Reviewed: 2026-10-02

Used for: Atmosphere affects observed sunrise and sunset; calculated and observed values can differ.

Limit: NOAA marks its calculator as no longer actively maintained. Its stated calculator accuracy is not claimed for this independent simplified implementation.

Factual reference only; no source photograph, graphic, logo or prose reproduced.

The daylight method

The model uses NOAA’s fractional-year declination at nominal noon, a 90.833° zenith for sunrise and sunset, and day length equal to eight times the hour angle in degrees. Leap years use 366 days. Displayed durations round to the nearest five minutes. Comparisons subtract the displayed durations.

37.6° N is an intentionally rounded reference latitude for the Bryce area, not a surveyed station. No longitude is needed for duration; no local sunrise clock time is provided. Choose years 1901–2099. The date is a Gregorian calendar date, not a UTC timestamp. Today’s initial month follows America/Denver. Changing the year does not change the historical climate table.

Privacy & local notes

Notes start on this page only. Nothing is sent to a server. Optional browser storage is restricted to this notebook’s single key. No account, cookie, location permission, tracking, external font, analytics, background service or automatic save of typing is used.

A saved browser copy is readable to other users of this browser and to scripts on the same site origin. It is not encrypted and is not a backup. Clearing browser data can erase it. Unchecking “Remember” removes this notebook’s saved copy while keeping entries on the current page. Reset asks for confirmation and clears this notebook only. Export is an explicit local JSON or text download; those files are not erased by Reset. Avoid names, contact details and sensitive locations in notes.

Dates are kept exactly as entered, without timezone conversion. Entries are personal, unverified observations. “Not checked” is the initial plant state; a blank note is never treated as absence. Maximum 120 entries and 700 characters per note. There is no import, remote synchronization or scientific database submission.

Original work & reused references

All nineteen diagrams, prompts, sheets, code and layout were made for Season Notebook. Botanical drawings are symbolic; no source photograph or geographic reconstruction is included. The existing Living Bryce source register helped locate the plant references, which were checked independently.

Two unchanged site fonts are included with their licenses: Inter, SIL OFL 1.1 and Gelasio, SIL OFL 1.1. No NPS logo or endorsement is implied. This is independent educational material, not a park program or current-conditions service.
